U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of launching a large-scale strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to the American television network ABC, citing its sources.
According to the information received, the head of the Washington administration has discussed several possible courses of action against Iran. One of these options includes a powerful strike targeting nuclear sites as well as military and government facilities.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources, reported that Trump had also considered the option of carrying out limited strikes on Iran’s military and government infrastructure. The goal would be to push Tehran to accept the terms of a nuclear deal favorable to Washington, while at the same time avoiding a large-scale attack. According to their information, such a strike could take place within a few days.
It is noted that the White House has not yet made a final decision regarding an attack on Iran.
On February 19, Trump stated that he would give a maximum of 15 days to reach an agreement with Iran. According to the CBS television network, military action could begin as early as February 21.
The TASS news agency reports that within three days the United States has deployed 39 aerial refueling aircraft and 29 heavy military transport aircraft to the Middle East in preparation for potential military operations, including Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
According to the data, the U.S. Air Force has also sent an AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft to the region.
According to Becky Wasser, a strategic expert at the Center for a New American Security in Washington, the United States has deployed equipment in the region necessary for conducting a sustained military campaign.
She added that the current pace of force buildup indicates the threat is not merely symbolic.
