General Francis Donovan, commander of the United States armed forces in Latin America, and senior Pentagon representative Joseph Humire paid a surprise visit to Venezuela on Wednesday for security-related talks. According to the Azatutyun radio station, this information was reported by U.S. officials.

This is the first visit by a U.S. military delegation to Venezuela since former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro was transferred to the United States last month and formally charged there.

The Venezuelan government stated that the U.S. military delegation met with interim president Delcy Rodríguez, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, and Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.

The two sides agreed to cooperate in combating illegal drug trafficking, terrorism, and migration.

It should be noted that Padrino and Cabello are accused in the United States of involvement in illegal drug trafficking.
